Biting Dog Sought
El Dorado County Animal Services is searching for the owner of a dog that bit a man on Monday, June 29 at approximately 9:30 a.m. while he was walking on the El Dorado walking trail between the tunnel and the bridge off of Mosquito Road in Placerville. The dog is described as black and grey, resembling an Australian Shepherd. The dog had a black collar and a leash.
The owner of the dog is believed to be a young woman in her 20’s with tanned skin and black, shoulder length hair. The young woman was walking the dog, along with a second dog of similar size, on the trail when the bite occurred. The victim requested rabies information from the dog owner. The woman stated she would go get the information, but then left the scene and did not return.
The gentleman who was bitten sustained minor injuries. Animal Services would like to speak to the owner of the dog to verify that the dog is current on its rabies vaccination so that the man does not have to go through post-exposure rabies treatments. Anyone with information is asked to contact Animal Services at (530) 621-5795.
Drowning on the South Fork of the American River
June 29, 2009 at 4:50 PM, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office received a call reporting a subject stuck in the water near trouble maker rapids on the south fork of the American river in Coloma.
According to initial reports a raft carrying 5 to 6 individuals went through trouble maker rapids (class 3) and several occupants fell from the raft. One of the rafters floated down stream and became trapped mid river in a set of rocks. The force of the river pushed the subject under water. Sheriff’s Office boat officers and dive team members arrived on scene and began a rescue effort.
Unfortunately the victim was under water too long and died. Recovery efforts continued until night fall when the flow of the river allowed rescuers to free the victim from the rocks. The victim had been wearing a personal flotation device (life preserver) during the incident but the river’s force torn it from the victim once he was trapped.
The victim has been identified as Soren Pedersen, age 29, resident of San Francisco.

Elly award winning director, Paul Tomei, is producing a summer play with students from 4 different high schools. The InnerArts program’s goal is to promote collaboration and cooperation between the various high schools and to have fun during the summer. The cast of "Pippin" by “Wicked” composer, Stephen Schwartz, is made up of students from El Dorado, Oak Ridge, Union Mine and St. Francis high schools. It is being choreographed by Elly winner, Beverly Stewart and music directed by yet another Elly winner and current high school senior, David Taylor. There are several Elly nominees in the cast as well.
Once upon a time, the young prince Pippin longed to discover the secret of true happiness and fulfillment. He sought it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations and the intrigues of political power (after disposing of his father King Charlemagne the Great). In the end, he found it in the simple pleasures of home and family.
This hip, tongue-in-cheek, anachronistic fairy tale captivated Broadway audiences and continues to appeal to the young at heart everywhere The energetic pop-influenced score by three-time Oscar®-winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz (“Godspell,” “Children of Eden” and the animated films “Pocahontas,” “The Hunchback Of Notre Dame” and “The Prince Of Egypt”) bursts with one showstopping number after another, from soaring ballads to infectious dance numbers.
Pop / Rock, Rated PG
