Neighborhood Meetings Revised
From: Keith Sweet
Neighborhood Meeting Near You?
Are you interested in hosting or attending an informal gathering in your neighborhood? Your Council Members and the City Manager welcome the opportunity to visit you and your neighbors in the comfort and convenience of your home.
The City Council is revising their Neighborhood Meeting program to broaden the reach of communication between City Hall and its citizens. It seems many residents would prefer to discuss how the City is running while in the comfort of their living rooms and amongst their neighbors. The Council is interested also in encouraging neighbors to reach out to each other in order to preserve and enhance the “small town” community atmosphere. The Council is encouraging “hosts” to invite neighbors who do not ordinarily participate in public life, and who might benefit from this alternative forum.
Topics for discussion may vary as determined by each neighborhood open house. The council members will be happy to provide an overview of the City, and discuss programs and topical issues. Alternatively, hosts may choose specific topics for a more focused discussion. The Council encourages the hosts to exchange neighbor contact and other vital information that might be useful in the future.
The Council will also be hosting the original Neighborhood meetings on a modified schedule. Citizens are invited to meet with the Council on July 15 at 3pm at the Rollingwood Estates Community Room and on October 21 at 1pm at the City Fire Station at 10600 Argonaut Drive.
Please contact the City Manager via email: mdaly@ci.jackson.ca.us if you are interested in hosting or attending an Open House. We look forward to meeting you!

Amador County Changes Hours Open to the Public for Fiscal Year 2009/2010
Effective July 6, 2009 Amador County will be adjusting the hours that it will be open to the public. The new hours will be Monday-Thursday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, closed on Friday. This change will impact all public service counters and public phone numbers, but not Public Safety. Emergency Services will still be available. The schedule modification is the result of a cooperative effort between the Board of Supervisors and several employee bargaining units to absorb the budget reductions caused by a faltering economy while maintaining a full range of services to the community. Staff will be working a 9/36 plan, nine hours a day Monday – Thursday, which is a four hour reduction in pay (10%) each week. Future cuts will be determined by the direction taken in the upcoming State budget. It is anticipated that the State’s budget solutions may cause layoffs that are tied to specific funding sources and program cuts within affected departments. Departments that have evening and weekend hours such as Library, Animal Control, Public Works/Road Crew and Law Enforcement will be making other schedule modifications. Appointments may be made with individual departments outside of the new hours to accommodate urgent situations. Details for specific departments or buildings are available on the County’s website at: http://www.co.amador.ca.us
